As a child, the first show we ever watched was "Gunsmoke". We watched it as a family, and Marshal Dillon had a profound effect on the way I looked at life then and now. I continue to watch "Gunsmoke" reruns daily; it's a great refresher of the lessons I learned so long ago.

I prefer Rawhide & The Virginian. But all of the old westerns promoted values. One Bonanza I just saw finished with Ben giving a short prayer of thanks to God for his sons. IIRC, Rawhide had an episode where a woman refused to blame a man for a mistake he made that killed her family, saying that God had forgiven her, so how could she hold a grudge?
That show was just great.
But don’t forget that Andy supported John Edwards and Obamacare in real life.
The cable channel Encore Westerns runs two "Lawman" episodes every day.
By the way, I too fondly remember "Sugerfoot." No cable channel runs it that I can find.
One of the ‘’Rawhide’’ stars, Paul Brinegar, was also on ‘’The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp’’ and ‘’Lancer’’. He played Mayor Mad Dog Kelly, Wishbone, and Jelly Hoskins, respectively.
Will Hutchins turned 83 last month; he lives on Long Island with his second wife.
But that was the actor Andy Griffith, not the Sheriff Andy Taylor.

Andy Griffith may have been the best actor ever. He skyrocketed to fame as a conservative, patriotic American, but his personal views were 180 degrees in the other direction.
I really kinda like the Wyatt Earp half hour program every afternoon on Encore too.
