Sometimes the poor recruiter is just trying to establish that he’s not wasting your time with something that pays way below your expectations.

Had an interview 20 years ago - walked in and secretary asked me to fill out application. Did so, left salary info blank, handed it back to secretary.
She says - you forgot salary info, to which I said I'd discuss w/ manager.
She replies (snottily), no info no interview and hands it back to me.
I ripped it into shreds and told her ... you're right, no interview, stuff it.
