The aluminum tube is a "star cluster" type flare. You take one end of the tube off, put it over the other end, then give it a sharp rap with the palm of your hand, and it fires an aluminum projectile (hopefully straight up) that then dispenses burning chunks of illumination flare. Things do have a bit of a kick.

They are fun fun fun. Also quite dangerous if you fire them directly at somebody. And once the flares have been dispersed, you hear the "wup wup wup" sound of the aluminum projectile falling down, so you have to be careful not to get bonked on the noggin.

One can also take the rocket apart, remove the star cluster, fill the rocket with sand, reload it into the tube, and fire it onto the next bunker conex over, makes a solid thump when it hits the side. Just sayin”

Fun to set one off under a desk in a crowded office and run like heck.
