I need to know if this tin wrapped around the tree is going to attract lightening.
I put it up so the cats cannot climb it. It is a VERY tall palm tree. I plan on putting another one around the tree next to it....unless it draws lightening. Can someone tell me if it does?

Yes, there is chicken wire up..look closely. Tree is about 3 feet from the fence. I’m not sure I have enough angle on the wire though...

My guess would be to prevent squirrels or snakes from going up the tree but the other ones don’t have them.

The high tension power lines and your neighbors CB or HAM radio tower in the background are much more attractive targets for lightning. Youre good to go.Isn't that something? He's wired for MARS. I think he has a camera on one of them pointing to my house, because he was up there adjusting something and looking my way. He didn't see me.

Vinyl is a good idea..I actually measured for it, but it was not wide enough and wrapping it the other way, it didn’t surround the whole tree.. and..it’s expensive...but I guess to be safe, I’ll have to bite the bullet and get probably 4 sheets....

But you decide what course you want to take. I see nothing wrong in keeping it on the treeOk...I'll think this over....it was a fast and easy solution to this problem..

Build a fence around the tree with a coupla three steel posts and some chicken wire. Bend the top of the posts out. Like a prison fence. If the cats get over that they deserve to climb the palm.

No. The metal wrapping of the trunk did not change anything related to lighting striking the tree, or not. It’s a non issue as far as lighting is concerned.

Yeah I heard. I think we already broke records for rain here. On the other hand, I planted more fruit trees and bushes....so that will help.

The collapsible low band antenna in your neighbor’s yard is apt to attract more lightning than your tree.
I have a 12’ length of rebar buried 11’ in the ground and attach my antennae and home grounds to it. I’ve not yet had a strike in 4 years living here in west central Florida.

Lightning will definitely not strike it twice.
Hope that this info will be of help to you.
