Do you enclose your chickens at night? My wife demands many levels of protection against hawks, eagles, weasels, racoons and the like. We haven’t had any problems, yet, but one weasel (I think) tunneled into the pen last year after the birds had been butchered.

Oh yes. We have to or the raccoon will get them. Our chicken coop looks like a mess with deer netting and hardware cloth covering every possible entry point for the predators, but we seem to have the problem licked. It's up-armored to the max.
It's kind of funny though, since we have neighbors who have several clutches of bantam chickens with chicks that free range all over the place, yet they survive.
