I do remember those handled trays from childhood, and the grinding noise the handle made if the tray had been overfilled with water-compared to that, fooling with the plastic ones does not bother me...

May God bless you both, Ti-you are assisting him with exploring every option, and that is good-he will come to see that there are good options.

The guy delivering this one recommended buying the extended warranty and agreed that they don’t have the lifespan that they used to.

Appliances are made and sold cheaply. That’s just a fact nowadays. Everything is disposable.

I have never had a water/ice dispenser and don’t have a water line run to that area to install one. It’s not that much of a burden for me to make ice.

The origin of the word of the day is the first two words of Psalm 130 (129) in the Vulgate translation: Psalm 129.

On the subject of ice makers/dispensers-at my house in the city, when the cub was a child, we had the ice maker/dispenser hooked up all the time-and the water is so hard in this area that we cleaned and repaired it every couple of months because of the lime deposits. I cleaned it again when I sold the house, and it became someone else’s headache to deal with.

I do not like/have water softeners because of the sodium and other trace chemicals they employ to soften the water-I use a reverse osmosis filter for the water here, and a low-iodine purifier, but that is all.

I didn’t have the plumber run a water line to where I wanted this ‘fridge, either-I had no intention of fooling with an ice maker again, and do not ever intend to, even though I’m planning for my next home to utilize mostly harvested rainwater for kitchen use.

My dad had an ice maker in the fridge once. You’re right, they use such a tiny line that it clogs easily. We have hard water.

I fill my glass to the top with ice, then put in liquid....I recall living in PA when a drink would arrive with two ice cubes in it. ;^) (And yes I realize I get less of whatever I’m drinking when the glass is filled with ice, it is just the way I like it.)

Those old metal ice trays are where kids in the south learned that your tongue (or fingers) would indeed stick to something very cold!!

I will admit to indulging in that foolishness when a bunch of us stayed with the grandparents in the summer-we would see who could stick their fingertips to the tray for the longest count...

I keep two gallon jugs of water for drinking in the fridge, and partake liberally with a few ice cubes and slice of lime whenever I’m thirsty-I don’t really use much ice.

A good man was martyred by Mohammedans in broad daylight in the capital of one of the leading Western, Christian countries, and there wasn’t a man to be found to stop it from happening. De profundis clamo ad Te, Domine. We are all Lee Rigby.
