Raw, unsweetened lemon juice either rubbed or sprayed around doorjams and windows stops ants in their tracks. I have never had ants ever.

An idea for your ping list, I just bought a stainless steel bin for dog-food storage (metal stops oxygen better than plastic) — air tight seal.
Anyway, it would be great for beans or rice or the like. Cheap, large, and designed for big bags to be dropped in.
I suppose a metal trashcan with the lid gorrilla-taped on would work, too.
