Cats love catnip. Mosquitoes? Not so much. According to Science Daily, catnip repels mosquitoes more effectively than DEET. Grow it in your garden or apply undiluted catnip oil to the skin for up to two hours of protection.

In a pinch, wild onion, like grows in your lawn, can be cruched between your hands and rubbed on the skin. I’ve done this and it works but you will smell up the place.... good post Kart....
What kind of pests?
I like Sevin, then Dursban, Chlordane and DDT when I can find it.
Thanks, bookmark
Interesting. Thanks.
We bought a snake repellent and it has something like diatomaceous earth and clove and cinnaman oils and it really works well. We did the perimeters of my MIL’s yard and she had no snakes in her yard all last summer. We killed about 6 rattlers just outside but they never crossed the line.
Just be sure that the diatomaceous earth you use is food grade - not the kind that goes in swimming pool filters. The pool type has been chemically altered and may contain carcinogins and is therefore not safe around pets.
Too funny =^..^=

Kartographer, shame on you!
Go to Costco and get some dish soap. Pour it around the perimeter of your house and edges of all your walkways. Use some water to get it to soak into the dirt and cracks. No more ants after a few weeks.
Might be no more salesmen or Jehovah’s Witnesses, either.
An idea for your ping list, I just bought a stainless steel bin for dog-food storage (metal stops oxygen better than plastic) — air tight seal.
Anyway, it would be great for beans or rice or the like. Cheap, large, and designed for big bags to be dropped in.
I suppose a metal trashcan with the lid gorrilla-taped on would work, too.
Marshmallows in a live trap. 24 last year, up to 7 this year.
Just don’t use the pool variety. I believe it’s been heat treated. http://www.dirtdoctor.com/DE-Diatomaceous-Earth_vq2263.htm
Aerosol starter fluid is great for yellow jacket nests. You can stand about eight feet back.
Any suggestions on how to get rid of a big snapping turtle? - other than shooting him?
We have copperheads in our Georgia yard and used a similar product.
So far so good. Just need to reapply after each rain. Told the neighbors about it so that they can help keep the snakes even farther away.
I have friends who keep guinea hens in their yard. The hens eat all the ticks.
ok here’s a wild one. Here in Florida wasps are a huge problem. They’ll inhabit just about any location which is out of the sun.
Paint the surface sky blue and they won’t build their nests.
