I love Britcoms and have seen many but dad’s Army isn’t really well known here.However,I have heard many references made to it that suggest that it was huge in Britain.

You’re right. Dad’s Army was a MASSIVE success in Britain, and is regarded as being one of the most beloved ever British comedies. It had a superb cast of actors, and provided entertainment for all the family (something of a rarity these days); from little kids who delighted in some of the physical humor, to older viewers who, with some nostalgia, would have remembered the real Home Guard, right up to Buckingham Palace, where the Royal Family were big fans.
