This was in Aransas Pass, in the 60’s.
My grandpa owned an ice house (real ice house, not beer joint) on the Island, so I spend tons of time there. It is still on of my favorite places.
There is no way in hell that I would live anywhere that the temp got that low. Good darn thing I did not marry a military man. ;-)
Aransas Pass... We went floundering in some shallow water next to a channel there, when I was a kid (’60s—gigs, lanterns and the like).
True, the cold, windy winters up here are one of the downsides. The cold seems to hurt more, as we get older.
