Such a pity. The original ST had women who were unreservedly beautiful, wearing, if somewhat risque, then definitely striking and unique costumes, elaborate hairstyling, and unafraid of their sexuality. They *knew* they were women, and they liked being women.

Importantly, it also included many older women, who while dressed somewhat more demurely, still projected an image of strong femininity and competence.

By the time of the movies and The Next Generation, unisex outfits, low maintenance hair, and mannequin facial expressions had taken over. While they might be intellectually able, they were emotionally deficient. And some came across as positively lame-brained.

(Enemy ship communication: “We will destroy you!”, followed by firing an array of weapons.)

Ship’s Counselor: “Captain, I sense ‘anger’ coming from that other ship!”

Captain: “No ****, Counselor?”

Truthfully, that character was so underwritten that some wit got an inflatable sex doll, dressed it up as Counselor Troi, and gave it a randomized voice player to say inanities at the touch of a button. He would ask it an obviously rhetorical question, then push its button, and it would quote random statements made by the character in the series.

The lady in question is Carol Marcus, who will one day in the future have Kirk’s son, David, who will be brutally murdered by Doc Brown...er Klingon commander Krug.
