Baldwin’s series was outstanding. One of the most perceptive things I have read about the North Africa campaign and general situation at its end. He was very coy about where we go next - today’s Slimes probably would have printed that our next target was Sicily.
One of my daughter’s in-laws was sent to one of those Army “special schools.” He was taught German for service with the European Civil Affairs Division, which provided the military government for the U.S. Zone in occupied Germany.
