I’ve always been mystified by those Gideon Bibles you find in motel rooms everywhere. The Gideons must have some serious mega-bucks when they can afford to print enough bibles to plant in practically every motel room in America. And they replace them when people take them home, as many people do. Who are the Gideons, anyway? (Excuse me if I sound dumb about this, but I have no clue.)

I donate a couple hundred bucks to the Gideon’s every year. They raise their money from presentations at churches.

The Gideons is an interdenominational association that focuses on giving away Bibles. Their money comes from church collections and other donations, and 100% of it is spent in Bibles as all their members are volunteers. Besides motel rooms, they place Bibles in hospitals, prisons, schools (sadly only when allowed)... Their work is based on Isa. 55:11 "So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it".
