Word For The Day, May 21, 2013
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
boffin [bof-in]

i can see that he would be more romantic than you : ) i am not really a romantic and i thank the Lord that xshub isn’t either. i have to say i just don’t LIKE love songs. But i like the best friend song, that’s not sappy. Sappy makes me uncomfortable, i am not sure why, but i just don’t like it.
i can’t in a zillion years imagine doing anything like that in front of my kids. kids do not need to know that their parents have sex, IMO! i recall when the wife of one of my colleagues was expecting a bit later in life, when his older kids were in HS, and him telling me how awkward it was for them bc it was proof postive that they were having sex.
please please please say you dress in colonial outfits for the duration of the trip, like chicks at the Renaissance Faire
and don’t even get me started on how i hate BALLADs.... eg;wreck of edmund fitzgerald, BeeGees Mining disaster, harry chapin’s cats in the cradle etc. HATE EM!
there is a pic in existence of xshub and i BOTH dressed in colonial garb from when xsboy was in 4th grade, bc that was COLONIAL DAY at St James. Parents staffed that event complete with colonial dancing, butter churning, paper making etc. i loved that event! i was chairperson each year my kids were in 4th grade.
Cats in the Cradle is just too sad of a song.
Somehow I just knew you’d be hating on the music in today’s class room....
i’d posit that i am part black, but since all four grandparents hopped off the boat from eastern europe, that really can’t be the case.
xsbaby sauntered in once when she was six, but, blessedly, she does not remember.
Bc it’s R&B i like that too : )
You’re definitely not Irish then. All our songs are sad. Ghosts of dead girls hawking seafood through the streets, people getting married the day before the man is put to death for being a revolutionary, pining for lost loves who went across the ocean.
nope, not a drunken sot, oops, i mean irish ; ) JUST KIDDING!
OK, some of the songs are boisterous. ;-)
Damn Limeys. (/pours another shot of whiskey)
Aw, come on, what about titles like “Dulaman”, “Whiskey in the Jar”, “The Ballad of Charlie Mopps”, and “Johnny Tarr”?
wow - I rolled my eyes when I saw the title; but after actually listening, I gotta say that is good
