There was no better illustration of the vapidity of popular music fans than the fact that they loved an album of music (a non-visual medium, of course), until they found out that the visual image pasted on to the music was a fraud. Then they no longer liked the music, which remained constant throughout?!
Also, I remember a moment when the two front guys "proved" they could sing at a press conference and bleated like stepped-on lambs.
The whole brouhaha was great theater.
