While I'm not a big fan of Hollywood, Disney, Nickelodeon, etc. role models, I can't deny that it happens and has happened for decades. This makeover does bother me. By the way, my kid's favorite Disney movie is Dumbo-underage drinking, acid trip, racist crows and all! That is one messed up movie.

Definite improvement, who wants a princess that’s a tomboy any way? Sounds like just a bunch of ugly feminists with nothing much better to do with their time.

My daughter really likes the Merida character for a number of reasons. I loved the movie Brave also for a number of reasons. What we both loved (and realize my charming red haired Scottish blooded daughter is now 35) is the fact that the story had substance and growth and learning and reconciliation....like so many real life relationships. The characters felt real and substantial. This is such a stupid move by Disney. I had given up on them until Brave came around. Now I guess I expected too much

I went and dug around for a few seconds (merida coronation), and saw the pictures from the ceremony, and while the artistic conception stinks, the actual ceremony (in which they finally brought out her mother as a character) had my favorite cast member playing Merida to the hilt, including riding in to the ceremony upon a war horse, and once she was crowned, she was handed her quiver and her bow.

So it looks like the outrage over the conception artwork is probably just a bit premature. (and I can't wait to ask the cast member what it was like attending the events in Florida.)

I did find it amusing just how many of the royal princess possie was from Disneyland. Though now I'm worried that they might stick her in the Fantasy Land meet and greet; Merida, at least at Disneyland, is set up at a wagon across from It's a Small World, with her brothers hamming it up for every picture.

Only 11 official? What are they?

Snow White
Cinderella
Alice (of Alice in Wonderland (1951))
Sleeping Beauty
The Little Mermaid
Belle (Beauty and the Beast)
Jasmine (Aladdin)
Pocahontas
Mulan
Tinkerbell (several movies plus several cameos)
Princess [Tiana] - Princess and the Frog
Rapunzel (Tangled)

There are a number of others I have not seen, or only vaguely remember the plot — Aristocats, Lady and the Tramp, 101 Dalmatians.
