IIRC, poodles were originally bred as french retrievers. Over the past 100 years or so they have probably been bred for looks instead of hunting instincts, but it wouldn’t be hard to bring back that hunting drive.
Do they know how to surrender also?
That’s right. Like the “show” Labs, they had the retrieving bred right out of them. It’s taken some careful breeding but they’ve got it back. . . . for a pretty penny, cause a poodle that will put a dead duck in his mouth or spoil his perm and pedicure by jumping in a muddy pond is scarcer than hen’s teeth . . .
