[ This isn’t just about GMO labeling, the Occupy Monsanto and Moms Across groups are anti-corporation who just look for any angle to get government to take over these businesses or close them. The anti-GMO hysterics are about as ridiculous as the anti-Vaccine hysterics (Moms Across also was into that).

Luddites under a different name.

If you scratch the surface of these groups, they are the same leftist groups that protest power plants, oil drilling, and any other industrial advancement in the past 50 years. ]

What we really need is MORE choices when it comes to GMO foods, more upstarts making their own unique GMO products that can compete against each other in a marketplace that doesn’t have big government playing favorites (like monsanto) and that is open to labeling if something is GMO or not. (let the market decide).

Also some GMO that has issues is the stuff that contain pesticides and herbicides in the food. Even though the pesticides and herbicides are “naturally occuring” in other plants there is a reason we don’t just eat those other plants.

The stuff that is good is when they modify a food to contain more nutrients like the vitamin A enhanced rice.

The luddites are against it all, much like the anti tech luddites of the past who were against steam power, which could be dangerous, but also saved many lives and increased the quality of life.

What these people don’t realize or accept is that ‘Genetic Modification’ has been going on since man started farming. Pretty much everything on our food shelves or what we grow (even heirloom varieties) are the result of genetic modification such as cross breeding, splicing, etc.

The only difference now is that technology and science have made it possible to do this down to the DNA level in a single generation versus trial and error over many, many generations of the plant.
