I seem to remember agreeing heartily with most things I have read o* yours. I am surprised to hear you say you thought that scene was
“vomit-inducing”. I won’t ask you to watch it again, it might even seem worse to you now. One man’s gnat is another man’s camel.I never go against or second-guess those things in art that hit me “the right way” immediately upon seeing or hearing, or reading them. It’s much more than visceral; it’s something that engages your whole being.
What did you think o* 2 movies which rank near the top in my estimation, assuming you’ve seen them?
Wings o* Desire, (1987) and The Double Li*e o* Veronique?
(As you see, I don’t have the letter a*ter “e”.)
The 1st named movie, W o D, was glancingly re*erenced by a part time movie critic, John Podhoretz, in the Weekly Standard,in a review o* another movie, as “ridiculously pretentious” or somesuch nonsense. I will never think o* him
as anything but a mediocre critic with a questionable sensibility again.
I haven’t seen WOD believe it or not. Double Life was ok. If you like Kieslowski check out his Colors Trilogy and his Decalogue.
