I hope Netflix is prepared for the coming storm. I bet they have system problems that weekend.
Well, that IS dumb-and it doesn’t take body frame size into account-I’ve got a small frame-but it says I’m underweight at 110-with a BMI of 16.2. I do mostly physical work-I just don’t eat processed food crap, so I don’t have fat on me-I guess I’d likely die in a famine, though.
Most of the men I work with are either overweight or under, according to that stupid BMI calculator, too...
January 21st of this year. Still hurts.
Is there anything of value to the recording (as a matter of public record) or is this just media sensationalism?
Unfortunately it is a public record. That doesn’t mean the media has to sensationalize it.
Nobody’s denying underweight people into the insurance group. We have to be under 31. 30.9
Nothing newsworthy. Just a normal fire scene. Yelling for more water. Yelling “man down”. Call for more ambulances and green tags (men who can go into building). Raw emotion of the fire chief. So, no, nothing we needed to hear. Lots went on at the scene that was wrong, but nothing on the radio transmissions. I listened live to the radio that night. Scary as hell. I went right to FB and KNEW it was bad. Folks pulled their posts immediately, but you could tell. By morning, it was all out there on FB. More than I would ever want to know. He was a 30+ year old father, husband, son, neighbor, friend... It was a big deal here. Still is. It will take years to get over this. He was from my department fighting a fire in the next district under another department and chief.
So obese folks cannot get insurance?
Not the best “90/70” plan. There are other plans offered.
He fell through the floor and was trapped in the basement. Another firefighter with him who managed to climb out of the basement all alone. No one even knew they were down. How does that happen? Dear God, I still shudder at the thought.
With increased sectarian violence in Africa creating so many refugees, “modern”* slavers slaver over the prospects...
I’m sure Obamacare will end this practice. Obesity is a pre-existing condition.
they label us slavers, yet so much of the world still indulges in slavery. A++
Obesity is not a PC preexisting condition, though. Just ask the soda czar in NYC.
I think it is still a stupid nanny idea-I work with overweight people who are healthy and have plenty of stamina. Nature didn’t intend for all of us to be ectomorphs. I can see charging really obese people more for insurance, but not healthy people who are overweight-do they at least offer gym or weight watchers memberships?
Wouldn’t you just love to see Bloomingidiot forced to stand in front of cameras dressed up as a 48 oz soda cup? I would...
I agree that BMI is not a very good tool for all and is skewed so most people are overweight.
That said, this arose a few years ago as a cost saving measure. Health insurance is about group risk. There is no obligation for the company to insure anyone, right now anyway.
And there is no magic “insurance company” money to pay for things. Its self insurance. The company and us pay for everything.
Thats essentially true for all employers, self insured or not.
Just to be clear, they use 31 and over as “obese” not the govt 29. So there is some allowance for govt fantasy.
As i understand it, once Obamacare starts there will no longer be true grouping. Companies must take all comers. Were all in one big risk group now.
As a workers comp casemanager, I enjoyed working with the companies that were self-insured-the employees were realistic in their expectations, mindful of safety rules and workers comp cheaters were few and far between.
Realized that the paper posted and printed the dispatch info on Friday knowing the burial was today. Talk about deliberate bad timing.
