Sometimes the best approach is not the direct one. Because the defenses are now raises against “calling a spade a spade”, in this case, calling a Muslim terrorist a Muslim terrorist, perhaps the best approach is to avoid using the word “Muslim” at all, while obviously referring to Muslims.
Oddly enough, this will likely be far more irritating to the usual suspects.
Instead of using the “M” word, use the “B” word, and if it is appropriate, add an expressive modifier.
That is, refer to such actors as “barbarians”, and modified with adjectives, like “primitive barbarians”, “heathen barbarians”, “profane barbarians”, “diseased barbarians”, “unclean barbarians”, and “Satan worshiping barbarians”.
Among other reasons this would be so irritating to Muslims is that, at the time of their founding, they were “more civilized” than the tribal primitives of that time. And over the years, despite all evidence to the contrary, they have tried to think of themselves as “more civilized than civilization”. Even though it is plainly obvious to all that they are indeed primitives.
So by calling Muslim terrorists “barbarians”, it smarts, because it implies that Muslims that put on airs as being civilized are *different* from their murderous, mud worshiping peers. Or if not, then the former are pretending to be civilized but are not.
For example, rewritten from a recent news story:
“After interrogating Dzhokhar Tsarnaev since his capture on Friday, U.S. officials believe the brothers were motivated by “primitive barbarism”, apparently an anti-American, radical version of “unclean barbarism”. Another official called the Boston bombing suspects aspiring “barbarians.”
