I'm not convinced that the cities will empty into hoards covering the countryside. Transport via shoeleather isn't something your average EBT card holder is used to. Much less identifiying plants and knowing how to use them. Not to mention having the calories to handle the walk and hardship to get to farms and rural spots.

I would expect a very, very large die off in the cities in days or weeks.

Those of us that have spent years and have experience in subsistance level feeding stand a pretty good chance.

Lucky us, we have group camps already setup for the displaced. One at the old Richards Gebaur airfield- airport in Belton, Mo and the other at Fort Leavenworth. Need food, water, shelter or clothing? Go to the camps. You will never go home. Courtesy of FEMA.
