Sunday is fine with me, Vision. I can post it at the same time you usually do and get everyone pinged.

I found this in a forum. I’ve seen nothing to confirm it though.

“Jack made it no secret that he was a Republican (especially during the later years of his life), but he broke down and wept when Democrat FDR died.”

Here’s an oldie but a goodie...

Compare to

http://www.tv.com/people/jack-benny/

“Benny served as the emcee for President Truman’s Inaugural Ball in 1949.”

“Politically, Benny was a lifelong Democrat.”

But do recall, if you realize it, that the Democrat Party of Jack Benny's haydays was very different from the democrips post John Kennedy. Bob Hope jibed Jack in one of his movies:

Oh yeah. Democrats didn’t become insane until the ‘70s. But Harry Truman, for example, backed backed socialized medicine here when it was being implemented in the UK.

Until the ‘70s, most people (especially celebrities) were mannerly and mostly discreet about their politics. And a much higher percentage of Americans of both parties cherished American traditions and culture.

I can’t believe Benny would have been for high taxes and a welfare state.

Missing kid story is always sad, and the added aspect of the grandfather. Bless his heart...

Speaking of Jack Benny, I was always very impressed with the spin-off series, the “Phil Harris / Alice Faye” show. I used to collect them on old cassette tapes, many years ago. Even wrote to Harris, telling him how much I enjoyed those shows, and he sent a little signed postcard back to me, thanking me.

THAT IS SWEET. You should have it framed. If you ever want to unload it let me know. Phil Harris did deserve his own show...love that guy..."...Hey Jackson..."

I wish I’d written to more of the old-timers. I had a big list of addresses. But somehow didn’t get around to it. Always felt a bit silly or self-conscious writing such things, I guess. I was also really keen on “Our Miss Brooks” at the time, and as all the leads were still around (Eve Arden, Gale Gordon, Richard Crenna, Robert Rockwell), I toyed with the notion of writing them, but never did.

Another person I did actually manage to write to was Mel Blanc, and he sent back a nice signed 8x10 of himself surrounded by cartoon characters he voiced.

That's just wonderful...

You liked Eve Arden eh? I think she was kind of wild. Ever seen her risque photo(s), now on the internets?

Yes, it was. Steak was good but overcooked in the thinner areas.

How did we go from Bing to this filthy, repulsive, gutter rap culture being lead by Obama in 70 years??? What the hell happened? Good God.

Nope. Don’t know anything about any risque Arden photos. Although, as she was a budding starlet in the late-20s/early-30s, it would hardly surprise me that she has a share of cheesecake shots, akin to what’s found in that era’s “Film Fun” magazines (and sometimes those from that time surprise folks in how risque they can be).

Speaking of another oddball radio-themed collectible... I have a legal ‘contract’ paper that Ida Lupino signed, in agreement to appear on the “Duffy’s Tavern” radio show, back around 1944 or 1945. Ed Gardner signed it, too. I picked it up about thirty years ago for maybe ten bucks. Not that I ever really cared for collecting autographs, but I thought it was an interesting little piece of radio-show history.
