That song hits me really hard. I’ve always loved it.

That’s one of my favorites by Mr. Jones.
I remember one evening several years ago, my husband and I were at a VFW, and they had a karaoke set-up going. I got up and asked to sing, “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” and the guy running the karaoke said that it wasn’t right for me to sing that song, because I’m a woman. I told him the song is from the perspective of a friend of the deceased and could be sung by either a man or a woman. Strange that he maybe didn’t understand the third-person lyric.
I sang it anyway, and afterward, a couple of the elderly ladies there told me how much it meant to them, how much they enjoyed hearing it. I thought they might be widows.

I had been on a George Jones kick last week, even before Friday.
Listening right now, in fact.

Amazing voice.

I attended an Alan Jackson concert last night in Birmingham and he started off with “He Stopped Loving Her Today” - there wasn’t a dry eye in the amphitheater....I had tears flowing.....such a class and loving act for a true legend. I don’t think I’ve quit shedding tears since Friday morning when it was announced the great George Jones had gone to heaven.

He Stopped Loving Her Today reached a feat that will never be exceeded. It was the #1 country music song of the year for two years in a row.
