Lt. Steve Nokes, supervisor of the Drug Unit, and Det. Tommy Maggart were also placed on administrative leave as they were responsible for planning the raid. Ultimately, Nokes was fired from his position with the department and was charged with criminal responsibility for reckless homicide, aggravated perjury and tampering with/or fabricating evidence.
Prosecutors said it was Nokes fault that the raid occurred at the wrong house and said he lied on an affidavit to obtain a search warrant for the operation.
Nokes pleaded innocent and was acquitted of the charges by a jury in June 2001. The City of Lebanon paid Adams family a civil settlement of $400,000.
