Did Mariah Carey almost get voted off American Idol? According to report from The Hollywood Reporter, Idol execs were considering replacing the singing sensation with veteran judge Jennifer Lopez mid-season in an attempt to boost ratings. But the plan fell apart when Careys team threatened to take legal action against the show, knowledgeable sources told THR.
A rep for Fox denied the report, told FOX 411: "This is just another ridiculous Idol judge rumor, likely started by talks of Jennifer performing on the finale." Careys rep also contested the report, as did Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe.
"I have not been included in any conversation regarding replacing Mariah with Jen this season," Lythgoe told The Hollywood Reporter.
And while it seems the rumors may not have much merit, that doesnt mean fans of the show wouldnt be happy to welcome Lopez back to the judging panel.
Lopez fit well on the panel when she judged alongside Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson. This seasons judges havent meshed quite as well. Carey and rapper Nicki Minaj have clashed several times on the series, most recently last week when Minaj called Carey sir while the two were bickering.
Original Idol judge Randy Jackson still sits on the panel along with country star Keith Urban, who is awkwardly positioned between Minaj and Carey. There has been no word yet on which judges, if any, will return to the show for another season.

If you don't care, we know how you feel, you don't have to post.
Randy, Mariah and Mr. Urban are okay, but the blonde, freaky, girl, not so much. They should have replace HER.
Hold it! I gotta’ get my giffashit card punched!
Haven’t watch any this year, but I think they need to replace the folks who are picking the judges.
Can I make the comment that both Carey and Lopez have VERY large derrieres?
Mariah is a dope. She has nothing to say about anything.
Minaj is quite possibly the most annoying person I have ever seen I my entire life.
Both of the drooling morons have ruined the show, and while I’m at it, I’m also sick of Randy “Hey Yo” Jackson.
for later
NOW we’re getting to the important stuff.
Nicki Minaj is a worthless, Obama-supporting turd. She has these personality shifts where her voice and accent change during the show, and it drives me up a freakin’ wall.
Mariah’s really been lackluster. She’s a diva, but she’s trying to act like a knowledgeable teacher. She’s really done nothing for the show overall.
I say set up a mud wrestling pit on the Results Show and let the two of ‘em battle it out!
I stopped watching this year because of Nikki Minaj. She is horrible to watch. I don’t know if I had missed more than one or two episodes in a decade, and just stopped by the third week of this season.
We stopped watching this year too I miss Paula Abdul id dive on a pressure cooker for her anyday
I concur having seen this for myself during the three minutes I watched this season.
My wife gave up on AI this year. Turned it on a couple of times, and didn’t last past about 20 minutes. She watched it through last year, though — and, by extension, I watched it, because it was on the big TV.
I think the format is getting tired. Its run its course. The judges are intolerable at this point. Cowell was the real draw. Slid quite a bit after he left. Tyler was alright last year, I guess. This year ... not even my wife could find a reason to give a damn.
SnakeDoc
I am not watching this season cannot stand that blonde woman. They should replace her.
RE: We stopped watching this year too I miss Paula Abdul id dive on a pressure cooker for her anyday
She appeared on the results show last week to give her kudos to one of the contestants for her jazzy version of her hit: STRAIGHT UP.
RE: I am not watching this season cannot stand that blonde woman
Of course you know she’s not really blonde right?
Well, I didn’t watch back in the day, but have watched this entire season. I’m not impressed with the judges in general. The only one who has made cogent comments has been Keith Urban, actually. Mariah is too wary of being disliked for being judgmental and Nikki is too intent on making herself painfully clear. Randy does know his business but this is not the forum for a producer to really make points of value on-air. Only Urban has managed to bridge that divide.
And folks, it’s not about the judges, it’s about the contestants. And one of them really does have the potential to grow into an actual Ella Fitzgerald. Watch for the contestants, not the judges, okay?
