Chrissy Amphlett, the raunchy lead singer of the Australian rock band Divinyls whose hit "I Touch Myself" brought her international fame in the early 1990s, died at her home in New York City on Sunday. She was 53 years old.
"Christine Joy Amphlett succumbed to the effects of breast cancer and multiple sclerosis, diseases she vigorously fought with exceptional bravery and dignity," her musician husband Charley Drayton said in a statement.
The band released six albums between 1982 and 1996, peaking in 1991 with the success of the single "I Touch Myself," which reached No. 1 in Australia, No. 4 in the United States and No. 10 in Britain.

Didn’t care for The Divynyls once they went pop.
Their earlier stuff was more punk and edgy.
They all went pop.
Still It was a nice moment in time.
The first time I heard this song was at an e-club at Camp Lejeune. We were getting ready to deploy for Desert Shield and we had some down time. I was drinking with a seasoned Devil Doc (corpsman) and he played it, not for me of course, he was thinking of his old lady back at home.
Yes, especially the hairstyle.
LOL! I guess we all get “that way” after a while :-)
It’s inevitable.
“not for me of course”
Hey man, it’s OK, it is the NEW NAVY.
LOL!
I agree and I absolutely love Crowded House - great lyrics and harmonies, great pop music (although they were a 90s band).

Then there is the Eagle Rock by a little known Aussie band from the early 70s Daddy Cool. Evidently this was a huge hit down under. But I was first introduced to the Eagle Rock a few years ago via my little triplet toddler nieces who used to love to watch The Wiggles, who are also Aussies. And there is nothing more beautiful than dancing around the living room to the Eagle Rock with triplet three year olds. : ), The Wiggles did a pretty good version of the song and I think the lead singer of the band sang on their version, but here is the original:
