Its almost like they believe they will have absolution for their sins (real or imagined) if they just believe in a certain cause. Except their cause typically has nothing to do with G-d.

They are trying to absolve their own sins, by projecting them onto their perceived enemies. They can act the way they do, because their enemies act the same way. So instead of asking for absolution of their sins, they absolve their own sins by projecting their sins away from themselves onto their perceived enemies.

And that really is the root of their evil. And it will lead to the complete destruction of a civilization. It always has and always will.
