We (seamstresses) have received the same sort of “benefit” from Sew News. We are legally able to keep the dvd. It was not requested by you...Of course the co. doing this sent several letters demanding $$$$. Sew News told us to ignore.

This is most likely through the magazine, not directly the NRA.

Just why do you think the President was so quick to blame the NRA for defeat of the latest gun legislation?

Not to worry. Ignore the demand for payment, and keep the DVD. They cannot win on this. You just got a free DVD. You may also want to be absolutely sure was from the NRA. I find this highly unusual.

The left uses the NRA as a talking point precisely because it is such a small minority of gunowners, and can be demonized as a small vocal minority of gun owners and citizens.

Alinsky's Rule 11: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, polarize it. Don’t try to attack abstract corporations or bureaucracies. Identify a responsible individual. Ignore attempts to shift or spread the blame.

The problem for the anti-gunners with Rule 11 is that their target actually is 150 million autonomous individuals, with no particular leader or representative that can be thusly targeted, frozen, personalized, polarized, and destroyed. We are the kind of diversity the left dreams of: men, women, children, and other creatures from every conceivable background, and not all belonging to any particular group that can be easily targeted and destroyed. We are that crazy, whacky super-majority of citizens and voters. No, that doesn't work so well as a talking point.

The "NRA" and its president can be individualized and attacked as such. That crazy, whacky organization of about three million people, led by this one crazy, whacky person. That works a little better for the leftist talking points, even though their whole side of the issue is a long string of losing arguments.

That is also why they have to attack "the gun", an inanimate object.

“if you receive “anything” in the mail you didn’t ask for then it’s yours to keep no questions asked.”

Yep, that’s been the Federal law for several decades.

Not to mention you can simply purge any CC charge that might have been made by calling your CC company.

It makes me wonder if the NRA simply had really tricky wording that just made it SEEM like you had to pay for it. I get all kinds of scam letters like that all the time.

“i love the NRA, but they treat their members like they all have alzheimers. each time i have joined, i have gotten bills for renewal within 3 months.”

Yeah, and their supposed benefits and discounts are a joke too, just like aarp. In either case, call about their supposed wonderful auto insurance discounts, spend several hours giving your life history over the phone, and then find out the insurance is Hartford, and their “discounted” costs are double what you are already paying to State Farm or whomever.

“Everytime I see one in my mailbox, my first thought is its from the government and what did I do now!”

Guilty conscious.

Actually, I know how you feel. I’m an FFL and occasionally receive official mail from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), ATF or the Treasury Department. My heart always skips a beat before I realize it’s probably just some form letter with some reg change.

BTW, those skipped heart beats are a symptom of living in a fascist society.

I recently received a DVD from you on home defense/combat shooting. I did not request this and don’t want it. However, after reading the accompanying information, I see that I have to take time out of my day to return it or I will be charged for the DVD.

The VFW did this to me. That’s one of the reasons I’m no longer a member. I wrote them a scathing letter and included it in the return envelope. I told them if the DVD was offered in their magazine, I might have ordered it.

I suggested they shift their advertising from hearing aides, stretchy slacks and luggage and try to target the demographics of today’s war vets.

NRA currently claims a membership of 4.5 million. While magazine subscriptions suggest this number a tad inflated most agree on a number around four million and growing. Add to this number those thousands of nonmembers who generally agree and support the NRA agenda and you have a political force few politicians choose to ignore. If not for NRA supporters current laws regulating gun ownership would be much more restrictive.
