Why did Oak Park IL go liberal in the 1980s, what changed?

I'll just think out loud here with no data as back-up. The
backdrop is Chicago, which began its boom as a financial
center in the 1980s, attracting young professionals from
around the globe, which gave rise to a wholesale rehab of rings
around the Loop, areas that were either ghetto or abandoned
industrial, areas I well recall during my 4 years riding into
the city for high school. Yuppies & DINKS (dual income - no kids)
displaced ethnic neighborhoods adjacent to this
burgeoning area. In Oak Park those large families had
grown up and moved on. Parents now in retirement began to die
off or move to retirement locales. The Pill had worked its magic
and would guarantee that the Baby Boomers have small families.
Oak Park's location as the closest suburb to the west, served
by the subway and Eisenhower expy, full of history (Hemingway,
FL Wright, etal) and historic old victorians, was the natural
setting for these newly emerging yuppie liberals. It became
a center of homosexuality, gun control, and progressive
heresy in the Catholic Church. A perfect setting for the Orwellian
Wellness Center Abortion Accomplice.
