If you have ever competed in an event like this or a triathlon you would not be surprised. Most runners in this event really push themselves so many don’t have all their faculties at the end of it. 4 hours of focusing on the finish line, reduced electrolytes, and fatigue can make you miss lots of stuff and your brain may not function normally.

This is the reason they have such a huge medical staff at the end of the race (and along the route) - they are there to care for runners until their heart rate reduces and they get their electrolytes built back up. It’s not fair to read so much into how the runners behaved at the finish line.

I so agree with you... runners have 1 goal in sight, that finish line! I know when I really concentrate on things, whatever is going on around me is a blur. I cannot even begin to criticize the runners in this. Now those looters, that’s a different story, but we live in a very immoral world and for most people this is SOP and they don’t even consider it theft but just “oh well”.

Fellow I worked with in SanFran used to run across the Golden Gate Bridge every morning. He told me, "I saw this woman who looked like she was going to jump, so I stopped my watch and tried to help her, but was too late.

Guess that watch thing is just built into their DNA. I thought of him when I saw the woman in red yesterday.
