To: plain talk

Hubby and I were walking our two leashed dogs last weekend when this friggin’ pitbull comes streaking across a yard, dragging her leash. She immediately goes for the smaller dog, my 42-pound setter-mix, not the 65-pound Australian shepherd-mix my husband was walking. I always carry a cane which works very well for keeping dogs at bay, if not, I can start smashing the errant dog over the head with it. Thank goodness, my dog is pretty submissive, and didn’t respond to the other dog’s aggression so I only had to worry about keeping my pup from getting bit, not keeping her from wanting to fight, too.

We’re screaming at the dog to go home, when the owner comes out and grabs the dog. Oops. Turns out the dog is a rescued “junkyard” dog she is trying to rehabilitate, she’s only had her a couple of months, blah, blah, blah.

Well, dang it, our dogs are rescues, too. One is an elderly gentleman that was “too old” to attract any interest, and the little setter-mix was just broke, too much trauma too early in her life (she’s fine now, thank you very much).

This constant push to adopt a pitbull just irks me because
as “sweet and adorable” as they may be, there are thousands of good dogs waiting to be adopted that would be ten times as sweet and adorable without wrecking havoc on the neighborhood.

I carry protection every morning when I walk my dog for this reason.

Ala "sweet and adorable becasue they're raised by human beings," it's doggy racism is what it is. Bottom line. To discriminate so blindly by mere breeding!

Dogs are people, too!

*rolls eyes*

It's insulting to the dignity of a dog bred to be a lethal force, to be assigned the job of "little buddy" in the family. No wonder they go nuts.

Leave that kind of work to a dog better bred to it. Like a shreiking little yappy chihuahua you can pick up and cuddle. They are awfully cute, once you get to know them.

Pit bulls shouldn't be banned, but they should be allowed to be dispatched at the pound more easily. How many dozens are cranked out daily in the neighborhoods where you see dumb-chit boys with their pants hallfway down their ass, being walked by a dog who could rip them to shreds?
