Maalox and products like it were a cheap alternative as a phosphorous binder in animals that had renal failure. I have to have the product compounded by a pharmacy for my patients now. Alternagel has also disappeared.

Have the available compounders decreased?

In the past, our vet utilized a compounding pharmacy to obtain a liquid, extra-strongly flavored doxycycline when our Akita refused the tablets.

The mystery deepens. We’ve all seen companies go under, or discontinue certain product lines because profitability has disappeared from the equation. But this situation has a completely different feel.
