In Imus’ case I believe he claimed the cancer had spread and he had a much shorter time to live than he has since. Also I think he claimed he was going on natural treatments rather than conventional therapy. He made a very big thing of it at the time.

There are 4 conventional treatments. Depending on the stage. The first is Surgical removal. Second is Cryogenic (freezing) of the prostate to kill the tissue. Rarely done any more.
Third is radiation (radioactive seed) therapy which is what I opted for. And the fourth is ‘watchful waiting’. There may be others but I am not aware of them.
Prostate cancer is very slow progressing disease. That would be a likely treatment regimen at his age. He is more likely to die of something else before the big “C” gets him. It seems his wife fancies herself a pseudo doctor (read: Quack) and she dictates his treatments. At least that is what he said on his show a few years ago.
