Are there ‘punk rockers’ anymore? I thought they went extinct after Billy Idol went ‘mainstream’. They evolved into hyper-effeminate, lanky kids with jet black hair over their faces and Hot Topic discount cards in their wallets. The only ‘spitting’ today’s punk kids do is... well, we won’t say.
Punk rockers ended up basically self-destructing. Back when Black Flag was big (early 80s), all that the hardcore punks did was start drunken fights and riot in the streets against cops, basically ruining their own scene and having their favorite bands banned in city after city. Those who were disillusioned with that scene switched to thrash metal, FWICS; lots of crossover there but without the stupid senseless violence.
Of course, the poseurs that emerged in the wake of grunge and the “pop punk” movement had nothing to do with their alleged forebears.
Back in HS I was. Mohawk, leather jacket, had my own bike which attracted the chicks. But I lost some of my street cred when I joined the varsity football team. No more emo stuff LOL. Figured I could get more girls by being on the team..
