Jays are merciless. ;-)
As far as the ‘ninja birds’ (as for cats) the Mockingbirds are somethings else. They don’t take any crap from cats. LOL! And I LOVE listening to them in the morning imitating the songbird calls.

These are Boat tailed Grackles, they do O.K. in the smarts department too. When I was able to get out to the beach a lot they would see me coming and follow the car until I parked. The males aren't quite as trusting but the females would come right in to the car. They recognized me by sight.

Used to shoot crows to keep them out of my garden sprouted corn.
Decided to make me a fake dead crow and hang it near the garden. Crows may be smart, but they are not certain enough the fake one is not really Ol Joe to come in for the sweet corn. Now no need to shoot em.

Not one outtake from “The Birds”, or that sinister crow in the movie “Damien”. We have not exhausted the photographs for this thread. One might even throw in a photo of that buzzard that was picking the eyes of Augustus McCrae on Lonesome Dove. No, it was not a crow, but it was a black bird...a big one. Besides, there was a picture of a crow hitching a ride on a vulture earlier in this thread. I would do it, but I do not know how....I am old. But I do like pictures.

One of my old supervisors at my place of work didn’t like crows hanging around his yard. One time he sprayed a bunch of them with his water hose. After that, when he’d go outside, the crows would quit making noise and eye him suspiciously. He swears he saw the crows dive-bombing i.e. crapping on his house in retaliation for being sprayed with water.

My former roommate swears rhat the crows knew which day of the week was garbage day... they would show up before dawn and be waiting at the end of the driveway.
Crows everntually taught the human to put the garbage at the end of the driveway with sealed lids on the cans.
