I don't know who I would like to play the next Bond, but I know who I would like to play the next M. Pierce Brosnan. This would completely explain why Bond can be a spy for generations, played by different people. James Bond is a code name, like 007.

It would be totally cool to have an introduction scene between Brosnan and a faceless new Bond, where he promotes him to a double zero and says, "You are Bond, James Bond."

That’s a fan theory...that “James Bond” is simply a nom de guerre” and 007 is the number that goes with it.
