Mike Rice's three-year run at Rutgers has come to an end.
The university terminated Rice's contract this morning following a meeting with athletic director Tim Pernetti in his office at the Rutgers Athletic Center. Rice's job status became tenuous when videotapes of his actions during practices from his first and second years on campus were made public by ESPN's "Outside the Lines" program on Tuesday.
Rice was seen throwing basketballs at players — including one instance, throwing it at a player's head — as well as shoving players during a practice. He was also heard using the term "f------ faggot" at a player and using abusive language.

OK, am I the only one who played the game the TEACHER’S called, smear the queer from Jr. high through High School?
I suspect that's what got him fired. At least he didn't refer to their women's team as "Nappy Headed Hos."
I consider myself and my coach very lucky to have not lived in this PC world.
I got knocked around, called names too ‘sensitive’ for this forum and sometimes almost beat up by ‘Coach’.
RIP ‘Coach’ and thank you!
I bet he fine until he said fa.gg.ot.
Then he was toast.
Another century, another galaxy.
The time and place we all knew and loved are long gone.
(you are SO insensitive!) /sarc
You know they gave the guy a second chance, now they fired him just because the old tapes were made public. I think the guy was a bonehead acting that way however I don’t buy into all the horror over it. Overall though I wouldn’t want to employ him coaching that way.
When I was a kid all the kids on the block would play smear the queer. Someone would throw a ball straight up and we would all try to catch it and run around the yard until we got tackled. Then that guy would throw the ball, and repeat.
He got fired because he was an idiot.
Had any coach ever thrown something at my head as he did, rest assured he would not have needed to be fired..........
I think we went to the same school. My contribution to team sports was to not get injured, screw the team, I was the smallest guy except in weightlifting.
In the aforementioned timeless game of smear the queer, I never got hit cause I stayed in back. Yeah, what a puss but having 6’ dudes throwing an anvil weighted dodge ball at 4’x” me, screw em. Plus I made friends with some of them and they had my back.
sounds a lot like Brockian Ultra-Cricket: A curious game which involves suddenly hitting people for no readily apparent reason and then running away
Not much doubt which f-word got him fired. It was not the first, even though that's the one that gets abbreviated.
It reminds me of some of my sergeants during boot camp. They put you through hell, but after a while I learned to admire them for it--unlike the commissioned officers, who only showed up occasionally for inspections, and mostly didn't seem to know diddly from squat.
Good thing Lou Holtz never got videoed, I understand he was notorious for grabbing face masks and jerking players around. When I played that was the ultimate insult to a player.......just sayin
All that was missing from that ESPN video was sad violins in the background.
Funny ... no mention of caliber or magazine size
Was it auto .. semi-auto .. AK47 or AR15 ?
Listen ... we can't just have people firing on universities without some kind of reporting.
C'mon you guys ... get with the program.
And while you're at it ... what kind of abuse was he performing on the tape?
Was it anything like, you know .. being on the telephone?
(What an uncomfortable position)
ESPN claims another scalp.
ESPN has been playing the video over and over. Not once did I see a ball being thrown at someones head. I saw a couple being thrown at some feet but none at the head.
Especially on a game on national TV. More than once.
That would be really really bad if he had done something like that more than once on national TV.
PC communist controllers at it again...
FU, ESPN.
