Rooker's character really wasn't a big feature of the show; but, as I said, when he did get a chance to show how good an actor he is, he didn't waste it. I certainly think he did a better job with his episode than Andrew Lincoln did in the episode(s) where he went crazy after Lori died.

I think everything that pushed Merle was about protecting Daryl, especially his finale. So, maybe the 1st season of him being very harsh with Daryl was Merle trying to toughen him up to their situation so that he could survive. I think Merle loved his brother deeply, and, in the end, sacrificed himself so his brother would have a better chance to live.

I think Rooker did such a fine job, that, as a viewer, I absolutely believed, at the end, that I had been mistaken about that character all along, and he was one of the good guys.
