In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

atavistic\at-uh-VIS-tik\ adjective
of, pertaining to, or characterized by atavism; reverting to or suggesting the characteristics of a remote ancestor or primitive type.

Example sentences:
Buck exhibits atavistic characteristics when his instincts and memories of an impossibly distant past "call" him and reassert themselves into his behavior.
-- Jack London, The Call of the Wild

...so that when Mrs. and Miss Hulme of Kansas City cut them dead in the Plaza one evening, it was only that Mrs. and Miss Hulme, like most people, abominated mirrors of their atavistic selves.
-- F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Beautiful and Damned

Etymology:
Derived from the Latin atavus meaning "ancestor," atavistic gained popularity in the 1870s.

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Barack’s white lineage, atavistic
Includes Karl Marx, collectivistic
On his black side he springs
From some African kings
Harsh rulers, but he’s more egotistic

A+ for you. I picture him stepping out of a limo while a narrator reads this limerick.

Atavistic

When Hubert received an unexpected going away party he realized that being called atatvistic was not the same as receiving an “attaboy”.

Very quiet this AM. Has everyone gone to the Bahamas to boogie with the First Daughters?

You mean the ones who vacation once a month on our dime? It is spring break for most of the class. I’m waiting for it to warm up a bit more to hit the park.

Boooo! I’m snowbound and going to the hospital next week where they will (in graphic terms) cut off my leg, discard my knee, put in a new knew, and sew me back together again. Not looking forward to i. Shameless request for prayers,

Honestly, I’m surprised they got that trade. I wasn’t sure that we needed more help. Things have been going pretty well lately.

It’s always defense that is important in the playoffs.

Well, if it’s any consolation, I’m going to work, not for fun.

I’m pretty sure it won’t be snowing, so there is that.

My mom got a new knee last May. It’s not going to be fun, but the end result should be better.

That word is one I use as a “polite” insult to the few liberals out here...

The genetic makeup of liberals
Really should be studied-
By a totally neutral group
So the results aren’t muddied

I’m sure there’s a reason for
Them being nasty and rude-
And an atavistic compulsion
To grab all our money and food

Some common ancestral connection
May account for the childish rage
They exhibit when they’re thwarted
No matter what their age...
