I can sort of relate to this. It’s been years since I’ve had one but I used to get migraine headaches severe enough to have stroke like symptoms — partial blindness, numbness on one side, that sort of thing. But the weirdest symptoms were related to words and speech and reading. I could look at a word on a page and could tell you what letters were in it, but for the life of me I couldn’t tell what the word was. It’s like it wouldn’t congeal into a recognizable whole.

Interesting. I occasionally get something similar to that: I'll be watching tv and can hear and understand the words perfectly well, but don't understand the meaning of the sentences, even the short ones. Only lasts a few seconds, but I have to rewind to see what I missed. Here's another pretty interesting article at that website about how the brain works.
