Instead of grating it cut it into pieces and cook in the microwave til it is puffy (about 3 mins), put it in a bag and run a rolling pin over it. It turns into a powder and actually works better in most washing machines.

Sounds great. I hate using my food processor on the soaps, since it sounds like it's ruining the (expensive) blades.

Yeah I tried all the other stuff, grinder, blender, etc. Was not satisfied with the results or with having to clean up the machines later. I use paper plates in the microwave and a plastic grocery bag and throw them all away when done. Be sure to let the zote or fels naptha cool all the way after ‘cooking’.
