Actually, Capn, a supernova is believed to shine as bright as the moon and be visible in daylight if close enough, and lasts for several days.

Well it wasn't the star Betelgeuse for sure.
It could go supernova anytime and is only 600 light years distant.
Will light us up pretty good (Full moon brightness), but should be survivable according to scientist.
