I’m pretty sure you can post the UK’s Telegraph. I have in the past. I don’t believe you can post their Independent, IIRC.

Once I bought a packaged salad mix, b/c it was on sale and I had a coupon. There was such an awful stench when I opened it....it went in the disposal immediately. Never again.

A cute frog would have a good thing.:)

But your link eventually leads to a generic Telegraph page with a slew of of stories. Here's a link to the story:

Salad is more dangerous than beefburgers, leading food expert warns

Cryptosporidium is not a type of bacteria. Cryptosporidium is a microscopic parasite that causes the diarrheal disease cryptosporidiosis. Both the parasite and the disease are commonly known as "Crypto."

There are many species of Cryptosporidium that infect humans and animals.

The best bet for all the bacterial threats that surrounds us is in most cases not sterilization, but to develop and maintain a healthy intestinal flora.

A strategy to avoiding sickness is that your immune system is capable of fending off most attacks, unless it is overwhelmed by a particular pathogen that reproduces too quickly for it to overcome.

But there is a twist to this.

What stops pathogens from reproducing quickly are other bacteria. In a pure “space race”, that is, if the space is occupied by good bacteria, the bad bacteria cannot have a population explosion—no room.

Right now, there are from 300-1000 different kinds of bacteria in your gut, including many pathogens, and antibiotic resistant bacteria. But of these, only 30-40 good bacteria take up almost ALL the space, leaving very little for the others.

So the best bet to avoid pathogens is to keep your gut populated with good bacteria, no matter what you eat.

People try to make their kids like in plastic bubbles, avoiding all germs at all costs. I believe that’s why so many kids develop food allergies when they grow older, their immune systems were never allowed to develop properly by developing antibodies and getting enough “good” bacteria.

I eat a salad every night at dinner..... but I would never eat the lettuce in a bag. I bought it one time and it was rotten.

And a good deal too! I think it would cost more at a pet store. ;^)

I don't do pre-packaged salad. Hopefully I'll get my garden straightened out this year and get my greens from it.

Braised good bacteria can be quite good, especially with a mild hollandaise sauce.

Allergies are a over active immune system not under active.

Bacteria...allergies two different things.

This is from the guy who said that 2 million Britons could die from the bird flu. He's made his career because of a previous e. coli outbreak. I pretty much never get excited about anything a tenured British ‘Professor’ has to say. There are a ton of incredibly bright people in the UK, but don't waste your time concentrating on British universities to find them (or American Universities for that matter).

Heh, heh. Love the "spout" illustration. Was the author that dumb? Or too quick on click "Change" on the spell-checker? Or an idiot editor "fixed" what was originally the correct word? I wonder how these happen.

Not ten minutes ago, I was reading another thread about Jewish children saved from the Nazis in WW II. The Daily Mail has a caption "...Kristallnacht, the Night of the Broken Glass when the Nazis instigated a statewide program against the Jews."

I'll bet the original author wrote "pogrom" and an idiot editor "fixed" it.
