Between 1998 and 2002 my soon to be ex-wife was in college getting her Computer Science BS Degree, and she told me that Windows was released as an outline, full of holes, and updates were just revisions filling the security violations that Windows had suffered.
She said Windows wanted those virus problems, so they could sell more programs, and newer versions of Windows.
