Anyone from the Class of '83 remember Obama?

I graduated from Bir Zeit on the Hudson [Columbia University] a little too early to remember Barry Soetoro a/k/a Barack Hussein Obama. But isn't it more than a little curious that not a single one of the 25 members of the Columbia College Class of 1983 - allegedly Obama's class - who lives in Israel remembers him?

What are Obama's classmates in Israel up to? Quite a few, like him, went straight to law school after finishing their undergraduate degrees. One is a doctor, several are engineers, and a few hold top jobs in finance. There's an architect in the group, a tour guide, a librarian, a speech pathologist, an occupational therapist and a journalist. Most are married with children (about three on average ), a few are already grandparents, while others, who came to parenting relatively late in life, are still chasing around toddlers. Among the group are also two married couples who began dating while in college.

They're scattered around the country, but Beit Shemesh and Ra'anana seem to be their preferred locales. Four live in Jerusalem and its outskirts, three in Tel Aviv, two are up north in Kfar Vradim, and two live over the Green Line in the settlement of Ginot Shomron.

But here's the thing: Not one of us remembers Barack Obama - who transferred to Columbia after his sophomore year at Occidental College in California - from our undergrad years, nor do we know anyone else who does.

"If he wasn't on my radar, he wasn't on anyone's radar," asserts Jamie Miller, a mother of five, who lives in Beit Shemesh and remains active in the alumni association, traveling back to New York every five years to attend reunions.

"I was a cheerleader, so I knew all the jocks," says Miller, who went to law school after college and today works as a librarian and English teacher. "I was in the marching band, I worked on the yearbook, and I was involved in student government, so I knew everyone. But I never saw him around."

Sarah Graber Nehrer, a speech pathologist who moved with her family from the United States to Rehovot last summer, says she became curious about Obama even before his first presidential run. "When he first came on the political scene, back when he was running for the Senate, I was living in Illinois, and I was like, 'Wait, this guy went to school with me,'" she explains. "But I had no recollection of him whatsoever, and neither did anyone else I know, which I found very strange."

Compared with other American universities, Columbia, a member of the prestigious Ivy League, is small. Its graduating class in 1983 - including Columbia College for men, Barnard College for women and the College of Engineering - had fewer than 2,000 students. And since the campus itself, located in the uptown Manhattan neighborhood of Morningside Heights, is also quite small, the opportunities to bump into your classmates and get to know faces over a period of four years were abundant.

Yet another classmate, Michael Teplow, notes that someone with presidential aspirations "wouldn't be shy, but in fact, quite gregarious," which is why he, too, was surprised to discover "when I first started flipping through my yearbook looking for his picture that he wasn't there, and I didn't remember him at all." Like Obama, Teplow went onto law school after he graduated Columbia. Today he lives in the settlement of Ginot Shomron, from which he travels each weekday to his law firm in Tel Aviv. Most of his practice is in corporate law, but Teplow has also built up a pro-bono side practice over the years representing Palestinians who have served as informers for Israel's security forces.

Another Tel Aviv corporate lawyer in the group is Norman Menachem Feder, a senior partner in Caspi & Co., who once clerked for the late Supreme Court Justice Menachem Elon. "I spent most of my time at Columbia either in the library or in the gym practicing for fencing, so if Obama wasn't hanging out in those places, I wouldn't have seen him," he notes.

Teddy Weinberger moved to Israel 15 years ago with his wife and former classmate Sarah Jane Ross, who works in institutional sales at Excellence Nessuah investment house. From their home in Givat Ze'ev, in the West Bank just north of Jerusalem, where the couple live with their five children, Weinberger continues to maintain close ties with many of his old college buddies, and says he understands why Obama may not have been on any of their radar. "He was a transfer student living off campus and that made it possible for him to keep such a low profile."

What might be a fair comparison is to ask how many of them knew another famous Columbian from that era - George Stephanopoulos - who was a class ahead of them.

Who’s to say he wrote the article?

I just reread the Sundial article. Content aside, it's fairly well written, passable for an Ivy League senior in terms of such basics as sentence structure, grammar, vocabulary, and, and syntax, but does not impress as the work of a literary genius.

Since Bill Ayers was believed to have been in the neighborhood at the time, would be interested in the subject, and is believed to have later ghostwritten at least one book under Obama's name, it's possible Ayers could have done this article. Jack Cashill would be an expert on this issue.

So, Honolulu Star and Advertiser, where are all the “local boy does good” articles? Even if his classmates had to play Six Degrees to Barry, they’d be coming out of the woodwork to claim they knew him when but it’s basically crickets.

Yes, there's a striking contrast between the total absence of contemporary newspaper coverage of Zero's purported years at Columbia and the noteworthy and favorable newspaper coverage of his later years at Harvard Law School.

Won a scholarship.... Hmmmm .... didn’t he get a full scholarship to Occidental?

Where is THAT in the newspapers?

Ayers returned to school to study early childhood education at Bank Street College of Education and received his master’s degree in 1984. Staying on there, he worked as an instructor while working on a doctorate in curriculum and teaching, which he completed in 1987...

The bride, who will be known as Mrs. Moustafa-Cook, graduated from the Emma Willard School and Swarthmore College, and received a master’s degree in education from the Bank Street College of Education.

(Genevieve Cook and William Ayres were at the Bank Street College at the same time. IIRC...Tom Ayres was on the Board of the College.)

By 1997, he appears under the name “Barack Obama” in the commercially-available 1997 edition all=Columbia alumni directory that’s supposed to include graduates of all the Columbia divisions. His address in the 1997 edition is an address in Hawaii. That’s the year he was sworn into the Illinois legislature. In the 2007 edition, he appears as “President Barack Obama,” White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., Washington D.C. Given all his moving about, it’s surprising he got and answered his mail to update the data. Likely someone else did the updating for the recent edition.

There is no way that he would not have been remembered by people at Columbia College if he showed up for classes there. He is a memorable figure, even in his strung out years. He had help on the inside, likely with a request from the outside, to make an exception and give him the Columbia College imprimatur. Bill Ayers, now with his wife Bernardine Dohrn out of hiding, was during this period getting an undergrad education degree at Bank Street College of Education, located a few blocks south of Columbia University and then Ayers moved onto graduate study at Teacher’s College of Columbia University, a couple of blocks north of Columbia College. If Obama was really there at that time, there’s little chance all these radicals would not have known each other.

The network that groomed and financed and changed the facts and greased the skids for the person called Barack Obama must have been wider than just Bill Ayers’ well-healed parents and Bill and his wife and their SDS (Students for a Democratic Society) and spinoff Weather Underground group. Obama’s most influential advisers sitting right in the White House are are a coterie of members of the radical Left network and Islamic Jihad Muslim Brotherhood international terrorists. Hillary Clinton’s closest adviser at the State Dept was the daughter of top Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood leaders. How was this allowed to happen? Is it fear or sloth or brainwashing or all three that keep Congress, judges, and the brainwashed, brain dead complicit media like the New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Sun Times, and Boston Globe from sounding the alarm about the dangerous undermining of the U.S. Constitution? Major pushback is needed now.

Just another of hussein’s little happy coinky dinks that he just happens to show up in the 1997 alumni directory the same year he gets sworn into the Senate.

He’s listed as POTUS in the 2007 directory? Is there a pic of that online? Since he wasn’t sworn in for another two years (Jan. 20, 2009) then Columbia must be using the same printer as the Hawaii Health Dept. Nope, nothing to see, move along.

Could be the photo was originally of Cook and Ayers. It would be an interesting project for someone who had the skills to determine that.

Heaven knows if the caption that came with this image is the real deal, but the watch he's wearing appears to be the same watch as in the image with Genevieve Cook...and the jacket is also his judging from a number of previous images. Why he's SHORTER in the photo with Genevieve and why his head is so out of proportion, is another thing...maybe he just had a funny look on his face or he had a beard, so they gave him a nicer looking face - who knows?

We decided to focus on what the episode revealed. By placing him with Genevieve who was at the Bank Street college with Ayres, at which college apparently Tom Ayres, the father was on the board, they pretty much verified what the Postman Hulton told...

Correction on the year.: Obama is listed as being in the White House in the 2009 All Columbia Directory. The 1997 edition has him with an address in Hawaii.
