Benedict Cumberbatch has confirmed that Sherlock has been re-commissioned for a fourth series, with the actor set to film three more episodes after the current trio being produced for series 3.
The news comes as little surprise given the intense popularity of the BBC One drama but will no doubt send fans into paroxysms, who have most recently been waiting patiently for the shows third series following an almighty cliffhanger.
Weve agreed to two more series but I could get into trouble for saying that, Cumberbatch revealed at the South Bank Show Awards yesterday.
All I know at the moment is Im doing these three [episodes of the upcoming series] and another three.

Other than the obligatory British PC-infused need to have a gay character (in this case Moriarty), this is a good show. I recommend it to anyone who likes the classic style of Sherlock Holmes, rather than the Robert Downey Jr. schlock.
This is a good series. I’m glad they are continuing it even though both stars have “broken out” due to their acting abilities and appeal.
But Moriarty is a bad guy...
Moriarty wasn’t necessarily gay. In fact I’d say it was a pose taken deliberately to set up Sherlock. Moriarty more seemed to be the dark equivalent to the sociopath that Sherlock is, unencumbered by any morals, and with no attachment to people whatsoever, merely seeing them as toys or pawns.
I’ll say this show is superior to Elementary, which I don’t consider a bad show in its own right. Sherlock has the advantage of not trying to humanize Holmes like Elementary does.
Goody! I’ve been watching the first 2 seasons over again on Netflix and am waiting impatiently for the next one.
Also love the program. Well done.
Watson (Martin Freeman) was perfect as Bilbo Baggins in the Hobbit, even though I wasn’t overly fond of the movie as a whole.
Thoroughly enjoy the SH series and look forward to the next installment.
Is Season 3 available for streaming yet?
