I have to laugh when the gay Shep carries on about a younger more progressive Pope.....little does he know God has a firm hand on His Church. It was never going to happen.

I am thrilled with Pope Francis.......knew I would be.

St. Francis told the Pope in his time that the Church needed to be reformed......and Pope Francis would know that and more....I suspect that the progressives will not be pleased with just what he will reform.

Seems this guy came in second to Pope Benedict last time around.

It seems there is already some Catholic bashing going on on a thread I saw-that is disheartening.

Mr. T5 went to a Jesuit school, and my favorite prof in college was a Jesuit-he was no liberal, in the sense of the word I understand, but he did advise questioning everything and believed we should all aggressively spread the word of God. He was called a militant by a lot of people who didn’t like his views.

I’d like to see Nancy Pelosi and CINOs like her who are public figures and advocate abortion get publicly called out and threatened with excommunicatuion, but I guess I’m dreaming...,

The media doesn’t know much about the Jesuits if they think that-the order was, I think started by a soldier-sort of like Bishop Germanus of Britain in the 5th century, who was a retired general-he was a militant, a questioner and educator, too.

I think the left is hoping for a liberal like some professor from a Jesuit college in America.....well, he is a Jesuit from Latin America, NOT here. Argentina is 97% Catholic...a lot more conservative than American universities.

Twitterworld is upset that Pope Francis opposes abortion and gay marriage......what did the not expect him to be Catholic?

I had immediately looked up Jesuit when I learned he was one - and my understanding of what I read was they believe in evangilism, education and then saw "civil rights" and hoped it meant the same things we all stand for, not what liberals have co-opted to mean.

I hope you are all pleased with the choice - I was thinking how strange it must be for my Catholic friends to be waiting on the naming of a new Pope. In the past you were reeling from the news of losing your Pope and this time it wasn't a death which deemed a new leader to be named. So the situation is so different this time I assume.

Well this is only my second time around as John Paul II was pope for most of my life.

Well this conclave was only my second time around, as John Paul II was pope for most of my life. And I was too young to remember the conclave that produced him or John Paul I.

That was my thought, too, when I saw something on a trailer on my homepage about it-what part of “the Pope is Catholic” do they not get?

I could see how it might be a much happier occasion this time since Catholics aren’t mourning a death too. You really have to respect the Pope leaving if he didn’t feel his health allowed him to do what he felt he needed to do. Few people have that kind of heart to step down from any position.

I’d add burn out to the reasons to step down, too-that is another thing few people will do-witness how mean and intolerant some people get om their positions at work-and they won’t turn loose until they are dragged down kicking, screaming and being sued...
