I find it almost laughable, if it weren’t serious enough, the remarks Vice President Biden made in a TV interview regarding home security–even making it personal by mentioning what his wife should do to deter a home invasions. Paraphrasing, get a double-barreled shotgun, a 12-gauge, and walk out on the balcony and fire two blasts. That will deter anyone from coming in. You don’t need an "assault weapon;" they are not easy to operate, and you don’t need 30 rounds. Get a shotgun.
Having seen his wife on TV, she seems to be a small-statured, petite woman. And in applying Newton’s third law of motion–for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction–I supply the following. A 12-gauge 2 3/4-inch shotshell with a one-ounce load of lead pellets fired at 1,180 feet per second in a 7 1/2 pound shotgun results in a felt recoil of 17.3-foot pounds of energy striking your shoulder. In contrast, a 5.56-by-45 mm NATO (.223 Remington) cartridge with a 62-grain bullet fired at 3,025 feet per second from a 7-pound "assault rifle" results in a felt recoil of 3.9 foot pounds of energy striking your shoulder. I wonder which would be easier for a petite lady to use for self defense.
Additionally, firing two blasts off the balcony can get you arrested for illegal discharge of a weapon in a residential area. Perhaps even a charge of reckless endangerment for, after all, those pellets have to come down somewhere. Suppose that you have fired those two blasts and the intruders are not deterred. Now, with both barrels empty, you are armed with a very expensive club. All of this coming from a man who wants to enact more firearm regulations.
And, according to his statements on TV, no one needs 30 rounds of magazine capacity. I would hope that based upon Vice President Biden’s aforementioned expertise on personal protection, don’t bet the farm. I realize that every situation is different, but if you ask any combat veteran, law-enforcement individual, or private citizen that has been in a life-threatening situation involving a firearm, hearing click when you want to hear bang means trouble. There are only two times when having too much ammunition is a detriment–that is when the vehicle you are riding, flying or sailing in is on fire or when you are trying to swim.
How many available rounds are there surrounding Joe at any moment?
Funny, in all the fire fights I’d ever been in in VietNam, I don’t remember anyone ever saying, “Gee, I wish we’d had less ammo.”

But you can believe a SENATOR Castle, R-would be voting FOR gun control had we not threw his butt outta there.
