Hyberbolic BS makes you less credible when telling the truth, and that is exactly what this is...

OK the Satan Worship accusation might be taking it a little bit over the edge, but at the same time it was the late 60s/70s when LaVey started his Satanist Church.

Get a grip, there was nothing hyperbolic about the statement.

I agree, but hyperbolic? Perhaps. BS? No. Since I cannot attest to the level of hyperbole not having read the textbook, I just have to point out that it is Mother Jones. They don't come much further left or conversant in their own brand of ridiculously overblown tripe than that.
Hippies were something I saw on TV as a little kid and that was later on anyway. The "Summer of Love" image that was presented is just as much exaggerated as this textbook is being painted as being. This is a classic case of the need for for actual teachers and not the indoctrination commissars that are being pumped out.
My next-door neighbor did the commune, hippie, drug culture, free love, etc. etc. thing. You would be hard pressed to find someone more adamantly opposed to it and yes, everything listed in that article we have talked about, and more.

San Fransicko spawned the Manson Family (before they relocated), Jim Jones’ Socialist Peoples’ Temple, and Anton LaVey’s Church of Satan. All in roughly the same generation. Plus a large number of other “counter culture” seekers.
Scientology opened their San Francisco “church” in 1968.
Saul Alinsky dedicated his Rules for Radicals to Satan.
Go ahead and laugh if you want but plenty of drug addled robots killed in the name of Satan and dragged others down with them.

It is hyperbolic, but then again so is the reaction. That is a terribly misleading headline.
